Holiday homes in Long Melford

A beautiful village set within the picturesque Suffolk countryside, Long Melford lies close to the border with Essex, making it the perfect peaceful base from which to explore parts of both counties on a self-catering break. Popular among artists, famous names such as Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable had links with the village. Long Melford’s beautiful, long high street is peppered with medieval buildings, a plethora of antique shops (think Lovejoy!), tearooms, restaurants, galleries and boutiques.

Walkers will enjoy the scenic trails on offer locally; the beautiful church and village green are surrounded by walks including the quirky trail to Lavenham, which follows the old railway line. If you're visiting Long Melford during the holidays, kids will love Kentwell Hall with its lively, costumed Tudor re-creation events. National Trust's Melford Hall is also worth a visit – once a favourite haunt of a young Beatrix Potter.

If you love history and finding out more about the rise and fall of Suffolk's ‘Wool Towns’, book a break in one of our Long Melford holiday cottages and explore sights such as the splendid Holy Trinity church – known as a ‘wool church’, built thanks to the prosperous wool trade. Our Long Melford cottages are found in the village and the surrounding area, making it easy to explore neighbouring Sudbury (3.5 miles) and further afield to Bury St Edmunds (14 miles) and the historic city of Colchester (17 miles). Have a browse of our Long Melford holiday homes, and you’ll soon be enjoying a relaxing and cultural Suffolk holiday in this pretty corner of the county in exquisite accommodation.
