Sudbury, one of Suffolk's wool towns is located on the Suffolk and Essex border and is most famous for being the birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough. You can learn all about the artist at the popular Gainsborough House Museum and Gallery. Sudbury is still surrounded by the famous water meadows which inspired Gainsborough paintings and also Suffolk's other famous artist John Constable. This bustling market town has many well known and independent shops, restaurants and cafes to choose from as well as a good selection of pubs for you to try the local ales. Long Melford is very close to the town where you can explore Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall. Cavendish, Lavenham and Clare, famous for its antiques, are nearby villages and the river Stour and Constable Country are all within easy reach.

Stayed there before and its perfect for our stay

Mr R,

The Cartlodge is a short drive or about a 20 minute walk to the centre of Sudbury which has a market twice a week and a Waitrose and a Tesco so food shopping is very convenient. It is relatively modern and built to a high standard throughout with the kitchen being the standout room - it has a six ring hob and a double oven so for cooks it is very well-equipped. The main bedroom is very spacious with drawers and a wardrobe and the single is much more restricted in space and in my opinion would suit a child or smallish adult. There is a small and private courtyard garden reached via the front door and through a gate at the side of the property. We particularly enjoyed the welcome basket - especially the eggs from the owners own hens!

Mr S,

A lovely property in a great location with a short walk to Sudbury Town and the water meadows which on a sunny day is a very enjoyable day out. The property was clean and had everything you’d want for a short stay. Would definitely stay here again!

mr L,

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Cartlodge. There were lots of lovely walks in the area which were perfect for our dog! Everything we needed was within a short driving distance and we would definitely recommend this property to our family and friends!

Miss W,

What a wonderful find- Cart Lodge is a cute little home from home, situated perfectly so you can walk to Melford or Sudbury. It was comfortable and clean and we definately want to go back there soon! There is ample room inside and out - loads of natural light and oodles of parking. The welcome basket was a lovely touch.
