Close to the heart of Southwold, this sympathetically updated cottage is a lovely hideaway for larger families and groups of friends looking for a quiet retreat close to the beach. Offering spacious accommodation for up to ten guests, the cottage has views out towards the lighthouse, and a range of original features including exposed brickwork, a charming window seat and roll-top bath. This tastefully decorated, beautifully furnished cottage has a long history – with spells as a barber’s shop and stationery store – and now makes a fabulous holiday getaway for walkers, nature lovers and beach fans discovering the Suffolk coast and countryside.

Stepping into the cottage, the bright and colourful lounge has a Smart TV, plenty of seating and a wood burner effect electric fire set in a brick surround. The stylish dining room is ideal for enjoying all your family dishes and celebratory meals which you can prepare in the elegant galley-style kitchen. Two shallow steps from the hall lead into the ground-floor double bedroom which has an en-suite shower room. Upstairs, there’s an elegant Jack and Jill bathroom alongside four delightful bedrooms: two twins, a king-size room and an en-suite double. All the bedrooms have Smart TVs. From the kitchen and the ground-floor bedroom, doors lead out into a sweet courtyard garden with outdoor furniture, offering a cheerful spot to sit back, dine alfresco or enjoy a quiet breakfast first thing.

The beach is just 200 metres away, with the pier and model boat pond just a short stroll north along the parade. Southwold has plenty of great pubs, restaurants, shops and galleries along with a historic lighthouse and vintage cinema. Also nearby are a range of popular attractions for all the family, including the Southwold Maize Maze, Benacre National Nature Reserve and Leiston Abbey, all within 13 miles.

An excellent place to stay for a holiday with extended family. The living spaces were great for us all to eat and socialise together. The house was clean, beautifully presented and warm on chilly spring evenings. The beach (and Suzies Caf) are less than a minute away and The Sole Bay Inn is 23 steps from the front door.

James Cottage was a wonderful location for our Southwold holiday. The central position made it perfect for our stay, easy to get to the beach and the high street. Parking was straightforward. The layout of the property was great and suited our needs well - we appreciated the comfortable living room, well equipped kitchen and large dining table as wRead moreell as the outdoor seating (although beware of the seagulls!) This house was perfect for our extended family get-together in Southwold. The downstairs room (with just two small steps) was perfect for my parents who have limited mobility. They had their own bathroom and had no need to go upstairs at all. The twin rooms were either side of the bathroom which was easy for getting kids bathed etc. The shower was Read morefabulous and I would have loved to use the beautiful bath tub had there been time. The front bedroom was spacious and looked out onto the lighthouse (and we were pleased no light came towards the house)! The bedroom at the back was smaller and had an ensuite. The trek from back bedroom to front was a long one once you had put the kids to bed as you had to go down the back stairs and back up the front stairs - but that is a small issue. The kitchen is well equipped and had everything we needed and the courtyard was small yet very practical. The house was brilliantly located just along from the Sole Bay Inn and close to the sea front. Only a 3 minute walk to the nearest food shop. Would definitely recommend this house to anyone visiting Southwold and would stay there again myself if I was in the area. Hide

Beautiful accommodation in a great location. Southwold is one of the prettiest places I have visited. Something for everyone and all in walking distance. My friends and I were so impressed at how well kept everywhere was, not always the case in seaside towns. James cottage is fabulous. So comfortable and spacious.

James Cottage was a fabulous place to stay especially for a larger family or group of friends. It catered for every need and a in a prime location to all amenities. Southwold is not a rowdy place anyway but being three doors away from The Sole Bay pub was not a problem at all - and quite handy really!! We hired James Cottage as we were getting marrRead moreied at The Swan and it was a short walk from there - on a beautiful sunny day - we were able walk to a venue making it all the more special. Would highly recommend. Hide
