Considered one of Britain's 10 best villages, Kersey is a quintessential medieval village. In the heart of the Suffolk countryside just a couple of miles from Hadleigh, Kersey is one of England's finest chocolate box villages with a stunning hilltop church at one end, and an ancient ford running through its centre.
Surrounding Kersey are miles of quiet country lanes, ideal for walkers, cyclists and country lovers. Kersey is in the centre of the area known as the wool towns. Step back to the 15th century, Kersey was made famous and prosperous with the production of "Kersey cloth". Stroll around the village of Kersey and you will see large first floor windows on the early Tudor houses; these were created to provide as much light as possible for the weavers who worked in their own homes. The ford, or 'the Splash' as the locals call it, is a tributary of the River Brett which flows through Hadleigh. It's a lovely spot in the summer and great for children who can paddle or feed the ducks.

Our stay at the Reading Room in the historic village of Kersey was beyond our expectations. It was the perfect cosy winter break with the fire on and lots of lovely surrounding countryside to explore - but I imagine it would be lovely in the summer too, especially with the little courtyard out back. There were lots of quirky finishing touches to the decor and the goody bag (including dog treats) was much appreciated!

Miss L,

We loved our stay here and were very comfortable, especially with the lovely fire. Kersey is so picturesque and everyone is very friendly. Visited Flatford and Dedham, Aldeburgh, Rendlesham Forest, Colchester, Lavenham, Pin Mill, Highlands Country Park, Finchingfield. Lots of great walks for us and our dog. Thanks for having us.

Previous Customer,

A delightful few days of blue skies and country walks: Flatford Mill, Kyton Heath, Orford Ness and Stoke by Nayland. The Reading Room is very cosy and beautifully appointed - thanks for a lovely stay!

Pete and P,

Thank you for a lovely stay in a quaint, historic, cosy cottage...! Just what we needed. We went on some nice walks with our dog, Ted, and had a great meal at 'The Bell' - the locals were very friendly too! Thanks for the little touches too... Ted enjoyed the dog treats!

Georgie and A,

Mrs H,

The most perfect place in a perfect location! We just LOVED the Reading Room. It was just the perfect size for us. It was beautifully and thoughtfully furnished and equipped with everything you could think of! Kersey is so beautiful and quiet, and just a short drive from lots of other lovely villages and market towns. It was the perfect honeymoon stay and we would definitely recommend it!
