Originally one of ten windmills built to power drainage pumps for the surrounding marshland of Haddiscoe Island, this stunning property now makes a fantastic retreat with miles of walks to enjoy. This beautiful inland island offers a unique landscape covering 2,000 acres of marshland between the River Yare and the River Waveney. A region rich in wildlife, you may spot deer, marsh harriers, herons, geese and owls, and the area is also grazed by cattle for much of the year. Away from the tranquillity of the immediate surroundings, you can explore Burgh Castle Roman Fort and Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (both within 15 miles) or spend a day by the beach at the popular resort of Great Yarmouth (5 miles).

On entering this unique property, you will find the delightful lounge, a relaxing space with plenty of seating, TV, DVD and CD player, and a living flame gas fire. Also featuring a choice of books and games, this bright, inviting room is perfect for unwinding in at the end of a busy day. The kitchen/diner is perfect for cooking up a feast, with plenty of equipment including an electric oven, microwave, fridge with ice compartment and a freezer, along with a sociable dining table perfect for getting together to chat about the day. This floor also features a stylish family bathroom with a bath, handheld shower and WC. When it’s time to turn in, climb the curved stairs up to the first bedroom: a sweet double. A flight of steep stairs takes you up to the second bedroom: a cute double room which can be made up as a twin room on request. Finally, steep ladder-style stairs lead you up to the final bedroom, a cosy double room in the cap of the windmill.

Stepping outside, the enclosed garden is a lovely space to sit back and watch the wildlife. Featuring a pretty lawn and a terrace with outdoor furniture and a BBQ, the garden is perfect for sitting back, drink in hand, as the sun sets. A gateway and steps lead up to the river frontage – please keep children supervised near the water. Parking is available on the driveway for two cars.

  • It is not advised to launch a boat/kayak from the river as this is tidal and unsafe

This is a magical and unique place to stay, our 8 year old loved it. Perfect for anyone interested in wildlife and who loves Norfolk's big skies.

This is an absolute dream of a location if you like peace, wildlife and utter privacy. Gorgeous views and a snug accommodation, so cute to stay in. We stayed in the summer when the Honeysuckle was in full bloom and scented the arbour, roses round the gate and a little garden that was well maintained and utterly private. I would imagine it would Read morebe just as adorable in the swirling mists of November too. If there is a downside, I would say it was the colour and metalic smell of the water that came out of the taps which stained everything and although rustic, a really good dusting of the rocking chair would have been nice and maybe a renovation of the very tired and worn couch and a wash of the cushions would make it seem a cleaner place. Unique accommodation in a lovely isolated spot, ideally suited for a quiet getaway. Be prepared with ample provisions as the route along the track to the mill does take at least twenty minutes, probably a lot longer in the dark! Accommodation is now a bit tired and dated and in need of some tlc. The only really downside was the vast numbers of flRead moreies (dead and alive) in the top storey which would have made sleeping in the top storey impossible. Fortunately our number of guests allowed us to not use that room. Hide

We found this property to be very homely comfortable and warm. The beds are very comfortable. The facilities are very good . The property is well equipped for couples or families There are plenty of books games puzzles etc and TV for perhaps wet days or lazy days. The location is amazing, total privacy, quirky old windmill which is an experience in itself, able to sit & watch the boats go by from the garden, fantastic to see so much wildlife every day. Early morning mist at sunrise was picture perfect.
