Property code: OC-SFMCS

Take a holiday with your partner in Benjamin Britten’s cottage. The composer, who lived here with his partner, wrote some of his most famous works while in residence, and they’re truly beautiful. You’ll be in the heart of Snape, a lovely Suffolk village with plenty of great wildlife to enjoy.

This property is all on one level. Enter to find the kitchen/diner, a great spot to cook your favourite meal. The room has a beautiful tile floor complemented with exposed brickwork. Then there’s the lounge, spacious for two and with comfortable sofas so you can curl up together. End your day in the double bedroom, where you can wake to a view of the garden. This property has one bathroom with a large shower. The private garden is full of flowers and different plants, so it really springs to life in the summer months. It’s easy to see why this was such a perfect place to be creative.

You’ll be in Snape, a small village. There are all the necessities nearby, including a couple of pubs where you can meet the villagers and try local ales and beers. Amble 500 metres to Snape Marshes, where you’ll see plenty of wildlife. You might see ponies or cows grazing, but look closely to spot adders, slow worms, marsh harriers and barn owls, and perhaps otters if you’re lucky! For slow walks along the beach, try Aldeburgh, 5.5 miles, and you’ll also be able to grab a meal (or an ice cream) to enjoy.

Like other users, we valued the single story accommodation. Parking is right outside the building which makes life very easy after a long journey. We booked this cottage as it was near to the Snape Maltings, but for us, a little too far to walk, especially in inclement weather. The walk-in shower was thankfully easy to use. The weather wasn't tooRead more kind to us, but had it been the little garden to the front of the cottage was quite charming and could have been used for alfresco dining/ snacks etc. The owners allowed us to use their EV charger, for a small charge, which meant that our journey home was so much easier, thank you Ellen and Chris. The cottage was very comfortable and the owners living next door was very helpful. It is in a great location, a few minutes walk from Snape Maltings and its amenities as well as lovely walks along the estuary. There are many places of interest nearby.

Beautiful cottage, with everything you need for a relaxing break. The cottage is on a main road but there was virtually no traffic at night. Owners live on site, they were very helpful with local amenities. Would definitely recommend it.

Very interesting history of the cottage and it's link to the composer Benjamin Britten. Location a good starting point for walks and visiting coastal towns, nature reserves and historic sites. The local garage (150yards) is handy for charging Electric Car. Would consider returning!

As a retired couple ~ within touching distance of being 80 years old ~ this was our consecutive stay at "Millers Cottage". For us the cottage was so ideal, and upon opening the stable style front door and stepping inside, it was like feeling "back home". The cottage has so much character and history and being all on one level was important for us. Read moreSince our stay in 2024, the owners have replaced the gravel drive with an attractive resin bound drive, which is certainly much more "user friendly" especially for anyone with a physical disability and in need of using a wheelchair. The location is so ideal, being so close to Snape Maltings with its various outlets and its concert hall. Without needing to even travel around too far, there is much to visit and explore. Without wanting to embarrass them, the owners are a delightful couple indeed. Needless to say that we so enjoyed our stay. Hide

Without any reservation we can highly recommend this property, and we consider it a bonus having the owners living on site ~ helpful, kind and pleasant.
