  • Romantic bolthole for two with scenic walks from the doorstep
  • Converted windmill and former home of composer Benjamin Britten

Property code: OC-SFMCS

Take a holiday with your partner in Benjamin Britten’s cottage. The composer, who lived here with his partner, wrote some of his most famous works while in residence, and they’re truly beautiful. You’ll be in the heart of Snape, a lovely Suffolk village with plenty of great wildlife to enjoy.

This property is all on one level. Enter to find the kitchen/diner, a great spot to cook your favourite meal. The room has a beautiful tile floor complemented with exposed brickwork. Then there’s the lounge, spacious for two and with comfortable sofas so you can curl up together. End your day in the double bedroom, where you can wake to a view of the garden. This property has one bathroom with a large shower. The garden is full of flowers and different plants, so it really springs to life in the summer months. It’s easy to see why this was such a perfect place to be creative.

You’ll be in Snape, a small village. There are all the necessities nearby, including a couple of pubs where you can meet the villagers and try local ales and beers. Amble 500 metres to Snape Marshes, where you’ll see plenty of wildlife. You might see ponies or cows grazing, but look closely to spot adders, slow worms, marsh harriers and barn owls, and perhaps otters if you’re lucky! For slow walks along the beach, try Aldeburgh, 5.5 miles, and you’ll also be able to grab a meal (or an ice cream) to enjoy.

Cottage is small and on the plus side it has a huge comfy bed efficient shower and well equipped kitchen with a pretty garden. However for us (2 eighty year olds) the sofa and chair was far too low and not comfortable and we felt the TV needed updating. There was no normal oven in the kitchen, only a microwave/convection oven which we found diffiRead morecult to master. The cottage is very close to Snape Maltings which was definitely a plus and easy access to Aldeburg and Orford Hide

Without any reservation we can highly recommend this property, and we consider it a bonus having the owners living on site ~ helpful, kind and pleasant. We found the cottage to be a very tranquil haven ~ an ideal " getting away from it all" place. There was also a private adjoining garden, and parking was easy. We would not hesitate to come again.

We loved our stay at the cottage. It was just the right size for the two of us. A great situation to visit the surrounding area both sea and inland. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. We would stay again if in the area.

This was a comfortable and cosy cottage, peaceful and ideally situated for exploring the areas around Snape, Aldeburgh and Orford. The owners were friendly and helpful and made us very welcome. The little private garden was very pretty but sadly the weather was too cold for us to sit outside!

Charming, historic cottage in a beautiful location. The private garden is gorgeous and we enjoyed drinks and snacks in the evenings, while watching the swifts flying overhead. Already planning to come back next year and I think this will be the first choice for all future visits to Suffolk. Friday Street Farm Shop (5 mins away) has literally eveRead morerything you could possibly want - lovely fruit and veg, butchery counter... you name it... and the cafe serves breakfast and lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Hide
