  • French boutique-style interiors with many original features, such as exposed wooden beams
  • Shared courtyard garden with outdoor furniture for al fresco dining in the fresh sea air

Property code: OC-REST

This chic cottage 100 metres from the beach in Southwold is a peaceful retreat for a couple or a single traveller. The cottage is part of a larger property divided into two units (Rest Cottage and Queen Cottage). You’ll be excellently placed to discover the delights of this quintessential seaside resort, with the vibrant pier, working lighthouse and colourful beach huts all within half a mile. Spend satisfying days taking the dog on pretty River Blyth estuary (1 mile) on foot, followed by evenings relaxing in your peaceful abode, which is bursting with rustic charm.

Lavishly decorated in a charming French style and with vintage-style furniture, this charming home makes you feel right at home. It is connected to another property via a door, but this is not accessible. The spacious living room has impressive exposed beams and a painted brick decorative fireplace, and sofas where you can kick back in the evenings. In the wood-panelled kitchen/diner, cook up yummy meals to be enjoyed at the sweet round dining table. Completing the ground floor is a stylish panelled bathroom. The property also benefits from a separate WC. When it’s time to retire for the night, you’ll find a classy double bedroom upstairs. Outside, a shared courtyard with table and chairs creates a tranquil spot for morning coffee before heading out for the day.

You’ll be in a convenient location 150 metres from Southwold’s bustling high street, where you can while away a morning wandering around the independent shops before popping in for a refreshing coffee. Further afield, head toward the river and board the ferry over to Walberswick, a sweet coastal village famous for its nature walks and rich wildlife of deer, otters, seals and seabirds. The seaside resorts of Thorpeness (15.5 miles) and Aldeburgh (16.5 miles) are both well worth the trip, and since this entire area is part of the Suffolk Coast and Heath AONB, the scenery of coastal dunes, shingle beaches and scenic marshland is bound to impress.

Downstairs, the lounge and kitchen, were rather dark. Although the upstairs bedroom was nice and bright. Bed comfortable. Lounge sofas big and comfortable. Plenty of space everywhere. The courtyard was uneven and shabby with weeds coming though the pavings.

The location of the property was ideal & a bonus to have a parking space, especially such a popular area, where it can be tricky. The property itself did need some attention, particular sitting room carpet & would have not been very suitable for a family with young children. There was frosted class in sitting room, which was a shame, because there was a lRead moreovely courtyard, which would have been lovely to have looked into from the windows. Lovely cottage and good location. If you don't use the garage there is free parking at bottom of the road.

The place is in a good spot near to all amenities and the coast too . Although the property is attractive with its French country decor , it really does need some in depth cleaning and refreshing . Well equipped and spacious

Excellent location with parking. Not sure that I would recommend to a friend if these issues remained.

Rest Cottage is a lovely, comfortable, welconing house. Great furnishings & layout. Very spacious for a one bedroom which is a fair size. Ideally located for beach, high st. & pubs & restaurants. Absolutely loved this cottage & would visit again. The garage was a real bonus.

The cottage was ideally situated to explore the town, really close to all amenities and the beach. A good base for visiting the surrounding villages and towns, and the restaurants, fish and chip shops and pubs were within a few minutes walk. Also very dog friendly, our dog was welcomed almost everywhere.

Cottage Ok but garage very very hard to put a large car in because of the narrowness of the road. Couldnt really use it during our stay as was worsened by construction work on the property opposite. The property whilst comfortable and roomy for a one bed cottage was much darker in the lounge and kitchen than the advertised photos. There was also Read morea lot of noise from the flat above the lounge. It should be made clear in the advertising that this is the case Hide

A kind of shabby chic holiday let, that is conveniently located in the centre of town and close to the beach and promenade. In need of some decorative up-dating, but it is spacious and well furnished and gave us a good base for a very enjoyable holiday.
