"This is a fabulous property with great views across the river & surrounding area. Really comfortable accommodation & we loved everything about it!" - Jane Rider

On a stunning Promenade leading to Shotley Marina. Take a couples’ trip with your friends in this incredible property. Situated on the place where River Orwell and River Stour meet, you’ll have access to a private beach and a spot to park a small yacht (and a separate place for cars), plus incredible views. This would be great for a group of people who love wildlife, water sports and adventure.

As you step into the property you’ll find an entrance hall with places to store coats and shoes. Head up to the first floor for an open-plan living space which includes a kitchen, diner and lounge in one. Each has their individual merits, but the thing you’ll immediately notice is the huge windows and glass sliding doors which show gorgeous river views. It’s a lovely social space where you can cook, eat, relax and play games. Further along you’ll see a family bathroom and two of the bedrooms. Both are doubles, simply decorated and comfortable, and one has a balcony. Climb to the second floor for the final bedroom, a king-size with a vaulted ceiling, private balcony and an en-suite. It’s bright, romantic and the perfect private nook for alone time with your partner. Altogether there are four balconies overlooking the rivers with tables so you can enjoy a cup of coffee at the start of your day. Outside you’ll find an open pebble garden, through which you can access the private beach. This is where you can store your boat for easy launching to the nearby water.

With the rivers, estuary and sea so nearby, this is a water sport enthusiasts’ dream spot. If you’d like more, take a day to enjoy the Alton Water Sports Centre (8.5 miles). Alternatively, hop on a ferry and visit the RSPB Stour Estuary (7 miles) for nightingales, bluebells and waterfowl.

Wish we had done more research. 2 pubs in walking distance but only 1 The Bristol arms allows dogs inside. Had an excellent meal at the Bristol arms.

We were extremely disappointed with this property which is described as having 5 stars ( on mentioning to the host we were told that that it was only awarded 4 stars) This is an attractive modern town house let down by the quality of the furnishings. We certainly didnt expect to find a chair in the bedroom with joints held together with sellotapRead moree nor did we expect a roller blind requiring a peg to hold it in place. A departure time of 9 am is unreasonable given the requirement to strip the beds and place the dirty linen together with towels in black bags plus taking rubbish to a disposal site away from the house. Because we didnt look forward to such a morning rush we left a day earlier. REPLY from HOLIDAY COTTAGES. Thank you for your feedback. We will review our rating for this property. The Homeowner has also confirmed that the broken chair has been replaced and the window blind is to be repaired or replaced. I can see that the description for the property does detail the 9am check out time so to make you aware prior to booking. We have though fed your feedback back to the Homeowner. Thank you again for your time in reviewing Admiralty Lodge and we look forward to welcoming you back as a guest in the future. Hide

We loved the location of the property but felt the fixtures and fittings very basic for a four star property. There are lots of hand written notices telling you what not to do! The welcome pack was very sad - a packet of rich tea biscuits and a pint of long life milk! Has it not been for the location I think we would have been disappointed in the Read morehouse. Hide

Excellent house in faultless location, lots of history in the area too. Sadly the owner might work a little on his customer care.

Admiralty Lodge is a fabulous apartment. With the four balconies there was always somewhere to find the sun. The views were magnificent and watching the sailing boats coming and going whilst enjoying a class of wine was a treat. The local pub served an enjoyable meal. We also took advantage of the round trip from Shotley Marina to Felixstowe and HaRead morerwich. Hide

Both the property and the location were fabulous - we didn't want to leave. The house was modern, clean, tidy and to a high standard. The view was stunning and we made good use of the balconies to sit and watch the water, sea birds and boats. Just brilliant and can't wait to return. Thank you!

I came with husband and two adult daughters to celebrate a birthday. The house was clean, comfortable and warm. We loved the views and walks, enjoyed a Thursday lunch at the Butt and Oyster (very busy) and a Saturday lunchtime drink at the Bristol Arms. Would have loved to take the ferry across to Harwich and Felixstowe but discovered it doesn't ruRead moren during the winter. So we may return for that. Hide

There was a general feeling that everything was at the minimum. No proper salt/pepper pots/only 3 dishwater tablets/minimal cushions. All small stuff but important . The views were amazing & we had a really enjoyable week but with a little effort & thought this would be a superb holiday stay
