Close to the heart of Southwold, this sympathetically updated cottage is a lovely hideaway for larger families and groups of friends looking for a quiet retreat close to the beach. Offering spacious accommodation for up to ten guests, the cottage has views out towards the lighthouse, and a range of original features including exposed brickwork, a charming window seat and roll-top bath. Stepping into the cottage, the bright and colourful lounge has a Smart TV, plenty of seating and a wood burner effect electric fire set in a brick surround. The stylish dining room is ideal for enjoying all your family dishes and celebratory meals which you can prepare in the elegant galley-style kitchen. Two shallow steps from the hall lead into the ground-floor double bedroom which has an en-suite shower room. Upstairs, there’s an elegant Jack and Jill bathroom alongside four delightful bedrooms: two twins, a king-size room and an en-suite double. All the bedrooms have Smart TVs. From the kitchen and the ground-floor bedroom, doors lead out into a sweet courtyard garden with outdoor furniture, offering a cheerful spot to sit back, dine alfresco or enjoy a quiet breakfast first thing.

The beach is just 200 metres away, with the pier and model boat pond just a short stroll north along the parade. Southwold has plenty of great pubs, restaurants, shops and galleries along with a historic lighthouse and vintage cinema. Great to be so near the sea and the town for shops and restaurants. Feel its tight on space if you were 10 adults particularly if weather was bad. We were 6 adults and 2 small children and sitting room could just about cope.

This is our second visit to the property and, once again, we really enjoyed our stay. It was comfortable and well equipped for the three generations. A real plus is the close proximity to the beach.

The cottage is very cosy and warm & everything has clearly been done to a very high standard. The location is ideal and in the centre of Southwold with plenty of cafes and restaurants. We would thoroughly recommend Coast for evening dining and the Adnams make your own gin experience which was great fun. Only one thing was disappointing - we hadRead more a problem with the dishwasher not working and despite leaving messages with the helpline no-one from Original Cottages got back to us to sort it. So whilst we would 100% recommend the property we would have reservations about booking with the company again. Hide

James Cottage appears to be a small, unassuming property from the street, but looks in this case are definitely deceptive. Even with seven adults, there was ample space for all, and we had a very comfortable few days there. The property has been tastefully refurbished and decorated, the beds were extremely comfortable and the location couldn't be bRead moreetter. We had a few minor niggles that we've passed on to the owners, but we would certainly recommend it and would happily stay there again. Hide
