This magnificent holiday home sleep up to 12 guests – making it the perfect base for family gatherings and getaways with friends – and enjoys glorious views of both Orford Castle and the coast. The spacious abode has a choice of areas for socialising, including two reception rooms, a formal dining room to seat up to 15 people, and a 1 acre garden. Nearby days out include the seaside town of Aldeburgh (11 miles) and the quaint holiday village of Thorpeness (12 miles).

The Grade II-listed house boasts an eclectic mix of antique furniture and the decor complements the 19th-century style of the property. The lounge is a lovely place to unwind at the end of the day, with plump sofas arranged around a TV and a cosy wood burner for chilly evenings. For a spot of quiet time, retire to the drawing room where you can curl up in an armchair in the glow of the open fire. Alternatively, gather in the billiard room for a game of snooker, a card game, or to catch up on a few emails at the desk. The sociable kitchen/diner is equipped with everything you need to cater for a large group and also has a range of seating areas for informal dining. Bi-fold doors lead from here to the terrace, extending the entertaining space in summer months. In additional to the kitchen/diner, you’ll also find a spectacular formal dining room for hosting dinner parties and family celebrations. A handy utility room, including washing facilities for four-pawed guests, completes the ground floor. All six bedrooms are upstairs and have en-suite facilities. One of the bedrooms also has its own private sitting room, for relaxing with a morning coffee or watching TV. The extensive, enclosed gardens surrounding the property provide ample space for relaxation in the Suffolk sunshine; take a gentle stroll around the orchard, play croquet on the lawn, or enjoy family BBQs and table tennis matches on the large terrace.

Orford is an attractive town, known for its fascinating remains of a 12th-century castle keep – climb to the top to enjoy far-reaching views across the town and marshes. Wildlife watchers will be in their element, with both the Orford Ness National Nature Reserve and Havergate Island nearby. Heading to the coast, you’ll soon reach the popular seaside town of Aldeburgh, with its pastel-coloured houses, vast beach, and excellent array of eateries.

The house was perfect for our family gathering. The croquet and other games were much appreciated. We were very lucky with the weather and found cooking and eating at The Great House a joy since we could eat either in the dining room or outside.

If ever a house had the correct name this was it. We had a great week away celebrating a 90th birthday. Orford is a lovely location with friendly pubs and shops (and Castle). Thank you for letting us stay in your home.

A beautiful house with stunning gardens. The Great House is comfortable, welcoming, and homely on a grand scale. Its location is perfect for exploring Orford and the wider Suffolk area, with plenty of lovely walks nearby and an excellent choice of pubs and restaurants. A wonderful place to stay.

A fabulous house with extremely helpful owners. Although large in size, it is very comfortable and we all felt right at home. The garden was also lovely, and we were lucky enough with the weather to enjoy the range of games. Be aware it is only enclosed for dogs if people keep the 2 5-bar gates shut. The owners recommended Dan the Chef who cooked uRead mores a brilliant 3 course meal one evening. We also enjoyed a trip on the Lady Florence and a meal at The Jolly Sailor - both thoroughly recommended. Quite literally a "Great House" for 12 guests, and perfect location for exploring the wonderful Suffolk Coast area. Hide

An amazing property and absolutely perfect for our family gathering. The kitchen was well equipped and plenty of space for chilling out or enjoying the variety of garden games. The location offers a variety of activities and visits. The local pubs and stores were also excellent.
