Description

The Martello Boathouse sits within the grounds of the Martello Tower at Shingle Street, one in a chain of such towers built to defend the coast against Napoleon. The area is historic and beautiful. You’ll be just yards away from the beach and all rooms have interrupted views of Suffolk marshland. The tiny hamlet of Shingle Street spread out along the shingle ridge of Hollesley Bay, lies in an isolated position on the unspoilt Suffolk coast.  It is within an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and is also an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) due to its wealth of rare coastal and salt marsh plant and birdlife, consequently, it is a haven for bird watchers.

This converted boat house is tastefully decorated a wonderful retreat for four. A wooden decking placed around the house, complete with outdoor furniture is quiet and secluded and leads onto the private garden. Summer evenings can be spent dining alfresco or enjoying a glass of wine in this great outdoor space. If you’re visiting in the colder months, The Martello Boathouse is cosy and inviting with its modern wood burner, sure to warm the toes of guests who have been out exploring. The comfortable soft furnishings are a great resting place should guests decide to catch up on a bit of television or get stuck into a good book.

Martello’s open plan kitchen, diner and lounge are a great space for socialising and enjoying home cooked meals. The kitchen has been tastefully finished with calming grey tones that complement the rest of the room. Fully equipped, it will ensure that all is provided should guests want to self-cater. Both the sitting room area and two bedrooms have wonderful French doors that lead out onto the garden. The doors create a communal feel and bring an abundance of natural light into the holiday home, as well as making the most of the outstanding views. Both bedrooms supply comfortable beds and are finished with good quality bed linen, curtains and carpets to ensure guests are kept warm and snug. Bedroom number two and the bathroom complement each other in their olive green tones. The bathroom, complete with bath and over bath shower is a great size for small families or groups. A sense of serenity runs through The Martello Boathouse, and we can think of no better staycation. Shop: 2 miles Pub: 2 miles.

Reviews

we loved the cottage.

Mr Matthew Garey,

The Boat House was very comfortable and lovely with the Marshes right behind. Great walks. The Dog and Shepherd does great food.

Mrs Lynda Ashton,

Charming very relaxing

Mrs P Lee,

Great place, fab location.

Miss Emma Saunders,

This location is ideal for those who want a place far from the madding crowd. When and if the urge to get amongst the crowds takes your fancy then there are places within striking distance. This place really is a Suffolk secret!
