This Suffolk Cottage Holiday Property: A traditional semi detached Suffolk village cottage. The sun pours into the sitting room in the morning and into the kitchen and the back garden all afternoon. 3 Bell Cottages has a good sized sitting room, very well equipped kitchen with large walk in larder and a ground floor bathroom.
There is an easy staircase to the 1st floor where there are two good sized bedrooms, both with lovely views. For a traditional Suffolk cottage sleeping 4, the room sizes are very generous. There is room for a travel cot in the double bedroom. Bed linen and towels are provided.
Setting: In the centre of a pretty and quiet village close to the coast, 3 Bell Cottages has a tiny garden area to the front and a hedged garden to the side, as well as a rear garden with bulbs, shrubs and wildlife pond. The property enjoys lovely views over the village in one direction and the meadows in the other, and the spacious rear garden boasts a large lawned area with table and chairs, mature trees and shrubs where you are sure to see a wide selection of birds.
There is a good sized brick built outhouse where the BBQ, spare garden furniture and crab lines and buckets are stored, with plenty of space for bike storage. There are lanterns for the annual Middleton Parade (Boxing Day) and for evening Molly Dancing, a real favourite in the village.
Middleton was voted the 'most active small village in Suffolk 2014'. The garden leads down to the meadows where there are shetland ponies, as well as views over the surrounding countryside.
Essentials: Sleeps 4
Useful Information: 3 Bell Cottages is close to the delightful thatched village pub, The Bell, a traditional Suffolk pub loved by locals and very welcoming to visitors. The Bell is famous for its great food, Adnams beers and friendly atmosphere, with lovely open fires in winter and the occasional traditional Suffolk entertainment in the summer, Molly dancing (similar to Morris dancing).
Awarded British Value Pub of the Year, The Bell produces top quality food using the best local produce at good prices. With two open fireplaces, a traditional bar serving ales directly from the cask, cosy alcoves and a beamed restaurant, you would be hard pushed to find a nicer pub.
There are some lovely walks from the cottage to the heathland and marshes at Westleton, RSPB Minsmere and the coast at Dunwich. Whilst very close to the coast, the road to the village leads nowhere else so there is very little traffic. Refurbished in 2010 for holiday lets, the owner has fitted a new kitchen and bathroom as well as decorating throughout to ensure holidaymakers' comfort. The spacious kitchen has a good sized dining table suitable for up to 6.
Packing tips: The owners are keen bird watchers so there are bird books in the cottage. Do bring walking boots, bikes, binoculars as well as your buckets, spades and beach towels.
Also worth knowing: There is an excellent farm shop about ten minutes walk from the cottage selling bread, milk and basics as well as lovely seasonal fruit and veg. There is an apple farm a little further on, where you can buy apples by the bucket. Fantastic. We also recommend visiting the second hand bookshop in Westleton.
