Local Area
Felixstowe is a vibrant Edwardian seaside town  which stands on a peninsula formed by two rivers, the Deben and Orwell. Felixstowe Ferry, a small charming fishing and sailing hamlet, is located at the mouth of the Deben. A visit to the town by the German Imperial family in 1891, along with the famous 'Felixstowe Spa' (providing high quality spa water) and the building of the pier and railway link, boosted tourism to the town. The Seaside Cliff Gardens, originally made up of private gardens attached to large cliff top houses, were also formalised during this period, and have been recently renovated..
The shingle and sand beach stretches for four miles in total, with a two-mile long promenade either side of the recently refurbished pier. Along the beach you can find an array of attractions and activities for all ages and interests. Leisure centre, popular theatre, children’s rides, adventure golf, play parks and refreshments of all kinds including Ice-cream made with Felixstowe’s own local dairy herd! In the lively town centre you can find a wealth of small independent and national retailers, coffee shops, banks, restaurants and a cinema..

There is also a rich history to the town with a number of Martello Towers and an 18th Century fort (one of England’s best preserved defences)  on the Felixstowe Peninsula, built to resist a potential invasion by Napoleon, and the whole area has several historic houses, monuments, and nature reserves to visit.
