Property code: OC-HCHURC

A deceptively large cottage looking out towards the Church of St. Peter & St. Paul at Wangford, 3 miles from the centre of Southwold. With its spacious living areas, inviting bedrooms and a stunning courtyard garden, this dog-friendly cottage offers families or groups of friends a comfortable base from which to explore Suffolk Heritage Coast.

Thought to date back to the 1600s, this detached cottage showcases contemporary furnishings alongside original features including timber beams, an inglenook fireplace and exposed brick walls on its ground floor. A small entrance hall leads to five living areas: a comfortable lounge overlooking the church through stylish plantation shutters; a family room that is perfect for youngsters; a dining room whose table is bordered by original church pews; a kitchen with garden views and almost every gadget passionate foodies could wish for; and a garden room whose bi-fold doors should be thrown open on warm days. A handy shower room also stands on the ground floor. A steep timber staircase leads up to the first floor, home to a family bathroom, a spacious king-size bedroom, a double bedroom with a wrought iron bed and a twin bedroom at the back of the cottage. The courtyard garden is covered in mature plants and climbers, the perfect place for alfresco brunches and BBQ suppers.

Wangford is a pretty village with shops, pubs and even a play area for youngsters. Southwold (3 miles) is a characterful town renowned for its sand and shingle beach and the array of family- and dog-friendly amenities within its town centre. The Suffolk Heritage Coast is peppered with pretty villages including Walberswick and nature reserves at Minsmere (both within 11 miles).

Cottage location is ideal for exploring the Suffolk countryside. Downstairs is charming maintaining many old features. Plenty of seating and 2 TV's. Although mentioned in the description as not suitable for those with poor mobility, the stairs are extremely steep and access to twin room is via a narrow curved off shoot. A number of door ways are lRead moreow so care is required if you are more than 5'6" tall. As the name suggests it is across the road from the Church and it's clock. Angel pub is welcoming and serves good food. Hide

Lovely location in village. Warm and comfortable. The sturdy handrails on the stairs were very welcome!

This was our second visit to Church Cottage and proved to be even better with the new improvements to the kitchen area and patio. Lovely welcome of fresh bread and homemade jam. The cottage is truly delightful, cosy and comfortable with all you could need of an excellent standard. We will certainly be back again.

The property has been updated and very surprised you are using old pictures/descriptions - all lovely additions to the property. New bifolds into the garden, new furnishings and an addition of a breakfast bar into the kitchen area. Also we were glad we didnt have our 6ft 5 son with us as were unaware of low ceilings/doorways. It does mention in iRead morenfo book in the house but not on your website. Also think 9am for departure time is very early and 10am would be more reasonable. We were very disappointed with your office response when we reported a seagull had got trapped between the garden wall and next door, the only access to the bird would have been through Church Cottage and we had nothing to get the bird out with. It was on our last day and to my knowledge nothing was done about it. The neighbour was aware however he didnt have access to Church Cottage/garden which is why I informed you to hopefully sort something out/get animal welfare people in, this was suggested for me to do however I am not local to the area and would have expected you to sort out. Also took ages to get through on the phone to you. Hide
