Description

In a prime location, close to the beach and overlooking the quintessential village green in Walberswick, Vine House is a relaxing, spacious, beautifully extended, multi-generational home from home.

Vine House, a detached property, thought to date back to the mid-19th century, was formerly 2 victorian cottages which have been sympathetically extended and updated to create extensive, and private, accommodation for 10 people.

The property has been architecturally designed to allow privacy and individual space whilst at the same time having a large family dining area, offering the ideal space for your whole group to gather and socialise.

The large family dining area is east/west facing and dual aspect capturing the morning and evening sun. The large bi-folding doors allow wide, open, access to the front and rear patios in the summer months, bringing the outside in and allowing for “al-fresco” dining. In winter, the underfloor heating keeps you cosy whilst the extensive glazing allows interrupted view over the front and rear patios/gardens.

A downstairs shower-room with access from the front patio allows children (and adults) to go straight in from the beach, emerging clean and refreshed into the house.

Three different seating areas allow for individual space, privacy and noise containment.

Charnwood wood burning stoves in sitting rooms 1 and 2 bring a cosiness to winter week-ends.

On the first floor the property offers extensive accommodation ensuring a high degree of privacy, storage and comfort.

Externally the front garden offers a hidden oasis of calm from the Green. Ideal to sit out and enjoy the afternoon sun. The rear patio/garden is ideal for morning coffee and evening barbecues.

All the village amenities, pubs, the harbour and beach are within a stone's throw, making Vine House an ideal place to stay at any time of the year.

Pub:50 yards. Shop: 50 yards.

Why we love this property:

Vine House is ideally located and uniquely combines multi-generational living, whilst allowing for some privacy and personal space; all the essential components for a happy family/group holiday. Truly a property like no other, and ideal for crabbing or summer barbecues on the beach.

Walberswick is a hidden gem, a picturesque Suffolk coastal village located just across the river from Southwold. There are no amusement arcades or candy floss to be found here, but simply families seeking pleasure in the peace and quiet of the beach, river, marshes and heathland. Quieter than Southwold, this pretty, unspoilt, Georgian seaside village is the perfect place for a bucket and spade holiday, followed by a hearty pub lunch or cream tea or a quiet, romantic break during the winter months.

The village has a long sand and shingle beach stretching for miles, backed by grassy dunes and surrounded by marsh and heathland. The nature reserve, which follows the River Blyth estuary, covers over 1,000 acres, combining mudflats, meadows and marsh; it is home to otters, deer and a wide range of bird species. It offers many delightful walking trails through the reed beds and heaths.

Walberswick is also a famous spot for crabbing due to two tidal rivers converging here. It is the self-appointed capital of crabbing: until 2010 the World Open Championships were held here every August, when the village was packed full of hopefuls bearing crab lines dangling bacon. Nowdays, you can just take along a bucket and a net for fun and spend a lazy day catching crabs.

Considering its size, the village has long attracted celebrities. Philip Wilson Steer and his circle of English Impressionists fell in love with the landscape, as did Charles Rennie Mackintosh and many resident artists today.
