At a glance

  • Gorgeous barn retreat in picturesque, rural, Suffolk surroundings at Chediston
  • Set within a handsome, 19th-century building still featuring exposed timber beams
  • Extensive, shared, landscaped gardens and grounds to explore on fine sunny days
Property code: OC-NOK

Part of a converted 19th century barn, and set within beautiful grounds that surround the owner’s stunning 16th century Suffolk farmhouse, this stylishly decorated getaway for two is located in the quaint village of Chediston, not far from the Suffolk coast and close to country walks for adventures together and with your four-legged friend.

A thoughtful renovation has created a fabulous couple’s getaway with a modern vibe, while impressive old beams in the vaulted ceiling give a reminder of the building’s traditional past. High-quality furnishings mingle with unique artworks and premium linens, creating a very appealing escape in the country. The property is set on one level, with a large, open-plan living space consisting of a beautiful fitted kitchen across one end, a dining table for two and an L-shaped sofa positioned to enjoy the wood burner and the Freesat TV. The double bedroom is comfortable and pretty, and there’s a sweet bathroom with a shower over the bath. In terms of outside space, there are benches and seats on which to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The property sits within 4 acres of land, set within accessible farmland where you may exercise your dog.

There’s a wealth of footpaths and bridleways to explore from Chediston, with quiet lanes taking you to the villages of Linstead Parva, just under 2 miles to the west, and Wissett, a mile to the north - which is renowned for its winery and farm shop. In the historic market town of Halesworth, 3 miles, you will find a variety of independent shops, pubs and restaurants, an arts centre and all sorts of interesting buildings, from timber-framed structures to Victorian former almshouses. Meanwhile, for days at the seaside, Southwold and Walberswick are both 12 miles away

My only problem was that I was alone and the accommodation was quite remote.

Found the Nook to be very well presented and comfortable and it was well placed for visiting local attractions, such as Dunwich and Minsmere. The owners were very friendly and helpful and I would certainly stay there again if visiting this part of Suffolk.

We love the Nook. It was our second visit to this wonderful semi detached barn. Having a dog, the garden out the front of the barn was perfect- which we had to ourselves and the extensive farmland surrounding was ideal. The Nook had everything needed, as well as a dishwasher! Beautifully decorated with all the comforts to make our stay wonderfulRead more. Hide
