Landguard Fort

Although Landguard Fort was originally constructed in 1628, what stands today was built in the 18th century. The Fort was built to guard the northern bank of Harwich Harbour at the mouth of the river Orwell when the river was a great and popular highway for both trade and raiders. It is the site of the last opposed seaborne invasion of England in 1667 and the first land battle of the Royal Marines. Learn about the Fort though a range of exhibitions, activities and audio tours together with some incredible bastion viewpoints, artefacts and an enormous replica cannon.
