An ideal holiday destination for lovers of British history and walking, the small market town of Framlingham is perhaps best known for its castle. The town, which has all the essential amenities for a self-catering holiday is dominated by this spectacular 12th Century curtain-walled castle where Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen. The Mere next to which the castle sits is a haven for wildlife and the surrounding area is perfect for a stroll or relaxed picnic.
Framlingham is also becoming known locally for its exciting and quirky annual festival – ‘Sausagefest’. Pig farming is one of Suffolk’s biggest industries and each year local butchers battle it out to become the Sausagefest champion for the tastiest bangers in Suffolk.
Further afield, there are some wonderful days out to be had. The coastal town of Aldeburgh is just 15 miles from Framlingham and is an essential day trip during your stay. If it’s history you crave Sutton Hoo and Orford Ness are two places not to miss.
