Eye is one of Suffolk’s most delightful market towns. Its rather unusual name comes from the Old English word for ‘island’ as it’s thought that the first settlement on this site would have been almost totally surrounded by marshland. Eye is a busy and charming little town. It has a good selection of shops, especially antiques and home furnishings boutiques in the town and places of interest include the Victorian flint and brick town hall, the church of St Peter and St Paul and the Norman castle ruins that overlook the River Dove. The Pennings Nature Reserve is close by and the Thornham Estate is ideal for those bringing their walking boots on holiday. Its central location in the heart of the county makes Eye and ideal place for exploring. Thetford Forest, Bury St Edmunds and the Suffolk Coast are all accessible for day trips. Eye is located in the Suffolk Countryside.
