The Suffolk village of Snape is perhaps best known as home to Snape Maltings, but the village itself is charming and dates back over 2000 years. At the head of a tidal estuary the Romans set up here with producing salt from the water of the estuary as their main trade. The village also has great Anglo-Saxon relevance – two burial boats and many graves have been discovered here. In more recent times, the Maltings that dominate the village were built in the 1800s by entrepreneur Newson Garrett and were used to malt Barley that was send on barges to London and exported to mainland Europe. The Maltings traded for over 120 years and in 1965 when the buildings had fallen into disuse, they were adopted by Benjamin Britten, whose vision lead to the creation of Snape Maltings Concert Hall. Today, visitors to Snape can enjoy a wonderful village atmosphere, shopping and eating at the Maltings and for those who enjoy walking, The Sailors Path is a wonderful 6-mile route between Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh. Suffolk Secrets funded restoration work to this route in 2014 which passes through salt marshes and along the banks of the River Alde.

The Annexe is perfect for a couple, clean & cosy. Welcoming host. Walks from the doorstep. Excellent food at the local pubs. Will definitely return.

Mrs Elizabeth W,

A lovely property, very well equipped and very comfortable. . The owners have really thought about what you might need for your stay and supplied it. It was nice to arrive and find complimentary milk, tea , coffee and a bottle of wine and some toiletries. Would highly recommend. And 2 pubs just 5 mins walk away.

Mrs Clare L,

We can not think of any way in which this delightful cottage for two and a pet could be bettered. We were totally comfortable and completely relaxed throughout our stay. So much thought and consideration has gone into making the property a real joy to be in. We can not rate our experience highly enough.

Previous Customer,

The property was home from home . A lot of thought went into making the property warm and cosy. There were many little touches that made Christmas special. The owners were on hand so if there were any problems they were there and made us very welcome. So from all of us including the dog. Thank you.

Mrs Veronica F
