This beautifully presented self-catering holiday cottage has been furnished to a very high standard throughout creating a perfect bolt-hole from which to explore the best of Suffolk. Situated on the Suffolk Coast Path, River Cottage is the ideal starting point for stunning walks along the estuary and only a 20-minute walk to Snape Maltings. For those that enjoy boating; small dinghies can be launched below the cottage and canoe and kayak hire is available close by. 'Mud-larking' is also a firm favourite with children! Iken is a reputed base of Boudica and the marauding Iceni tribes who made good use of the commanding position on the south side of the Alde Estuary. Later, in 869AD, a Viking sailing fleet destroyed the 7th Century monastery at Iken. In the 19th Century sailing barges used the river to trade corn and coal between Snape, London and the east coast ports. Now, you will see the occasional pleasure boat whilst taking in the highly regarded SSSI wildlife habitat and the stunning estuary scenery. Views span from the 7th Century St Botolph's Church, standing on a promontory of higher ground, to the former maltings at Snape which are now vibrant with the sounds of the famous concert hall.

An absolute delight to stay in. The views over the Alde were fantastic and it was amazing to see birds such as avocet, curlew and knot so close by and in different light as daylight and the weather changed. So nice to be able to walk to the Maltings along the river.Mrs R Rootes - 13th December 2017
