Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten, who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival, which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. There is a golf club and boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends. The estuary is also a great area for walking and for soaking up some of the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

Railway cottage is a lovely little base for exploring the surrounding Suffolk coast and nature reserves. The cottage was comfortable for 2 people, and had all the necessary amenities. Aldeburgh is lovely with lots of upmarket shops and a few small supermarkets (2 located less than 5 minute walk from the property). There are also several restaurants/pubs, we sampled the food at the Mill Inn and also tried the amazing wood fired pizzas at the White Hart Inn (served Thur - Sun from the pub yard). Highly recommend this cottage, the village of Aldeburgh and the surrounding area. We were visiting to go to the many nature reserves in the area and in particular enjoyed 2 trips to RSPB Minsmere as well as Dingle Marshes, Dunwich Heath and RSPB North Warren.

Past Customer,

Railway cottage is one of the nicest self-catering cottages I have every stayed in. It has everything you could want - even two hairdryers. The cottage itself is light and sunny, and so conveniently located nearby to supermarkets and you can easily cook for yourself in the well equipped kitchen. The cottage is beautifully furnished, and I was particularly impressed with the lovely strong shower in the spotless bathroom. There were even little touches like a soap, spare disposable razor, perfume bottle. The owner has thought of everything. The bed is comfortable and the little table and chairs at the end of the garden were lovely for an evening glass of wine and it is an easy 10 minute walk to the sea front in Aldeburgh.

Dr G C,

This is our third stay at the property so we know and like it very much.
