Woodbridge Area

At the southern tip of the beautiful Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our holiday cottages in Woodbridge are near the banks of the beautiful river Deben.

Our Woodbridge holiday cottages are set in an area full of character and history – winding lanes are surrounded by fine medieval timbered cottages, Georgian townhouses and a mixture of cosy pubs, independent shops, boutiques, delicatessens and bookshops. From your Woodbridge self-catering cottage you will be able to visit the historic Tide Mill – one of the oldest in the UK, dating from the 18th century – and just outside Woodbridge is the fascinating Sutton Hoo, where an Anglo-Saxon burial ship was discovered in the 1930s. This is the perfect location for those who love a Suffolk holiday with history!

Head south of our self catering homes in Woodbridge and you come to the charming seaside cottages in Felixstowe, where the North Sea meets the estuaries of the rivers Orwell, Stour and Deben. With a lovely beach, beach huts, long promenade and perfectly manicured seafront gardens alongside a pleasurable mix of Victorian and Edwardian architecture, our Felixstowe holiday homes are great for a traditional Suffolk family holiday. The Spa Pavilion Theatre – a 900-seat art deco building on the promenade – is always worth a visit, while history buffs will enjoy both the Felixstowe Museum and the Languard Fort. Those who love their birdwatching holidays will enjoy the Languard Bird Observatory at the mouth of the River Orwell.

The coastal region between Felixstowe and Aldeburgh is a sparsely populated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where our picturesque countryside holiday homes hint at times past. Our self catering cottages in Capel St Andrew are set in a unique picture-postcard hamlet – although there is no longer a Church as the name suggests, the steel sculpture which serves as a village sign shows St Andrew the fisherman with a catch of herrings and eels!

From our holiday cottages near Orford and its little quay you can catch a boat out to Orford Ness, an internationally important and Europe’s largest vegetated shingle spit, where the diverse habitat provides an important breeding ground for wading birds -  our Oford holiday homes are a  great opportunity for birdwatchers!  Havergate Island, an RSPB bird sanctuary, is also nearby – famous for its many Avocet.

South of our Hollesley and Shingle Street cottages, and located on a peninsula of pine forest and heathland, Bawdsey is notable as the place where radar research took place early in World War II and can be reached via a foot ferry across the Deben from Felixstowe Ferry.

Our Woodbridge self catering cottages offer easy access to Ipswich, England’s oldest continuously settled Anglo- Saxon town, and its stunning historic buildings. Look out for Christchurch Mansion, a fine Tudor house which boasts the best collection of Constable and Gainsborough works outside London. A busy retail and commercial centre, Ipswich has a rejuvenated river front area complete with vibrant cafés, cosmopolitan restaurants, shops and stylish self-catering apartments.
