Southwold Area
Our self catering cottages in Southwold enjoy all thats best about an English holiday by the seaside. Iconic beach huts, an historic pier and a working lighthouse may mark this out as a resort with an interesting past, but a selection of high-quality shops and renowned restaurants make it a thriving modern town where the emphasis is most definitely on fun and relaxation for locals and visitors alike.
Our Southwold holiday homes are great for relaxing, and if you want to get out and explore, local culture is on your doorstep! Mentioned in the Domesday Book as an important fishing port, Southwold received a town charter from Henry VII in 1489 and is alive with history even today. The Great Fire of 1659 destroyed much of the town and created a number of open spaces, among them the descriptively named Gun Hill where six cannons commemorate the Battle of Sole Bay, fought in 1672 between English and French fleets on one side and the Dutch on the other.
Head out of your chosen Southwold cottage to find the impressive historic buildings which escaped the ravages of the fire, including the impressive St Edmunds Church and The Old Water Tower on Southwold Common, built in 1886 and now one of Suffolk Secrets three local offices.
Charming Southwold holiday cottages nestle among a mix of Georgian, Regency and Victorian architecture, while the local Adnams brewery nearby upholds the town's long tradition of reviving and refreshing all those who visit beer has been brewed in the town for 600 years. Southwolds beautiful golden beach is a regular
Blue Flag winner, perfect for bucket and spade-style holiday on the Suffolk coast!
