Our Southwold holiday homes are great for relaxing, and if you want to get out and explore, local culture is on your doorstep! Mentioned in the Domesday Book as an important fishing port, Southwold received a town charter from Henry VII in 1489 and is alive with history even today. The Great Fire of 1659 destroyed much of the town and created a number of open spaces, among them the descriptively named Gun Hill where six cannons commemorate the Battle of Sole Bay, fought in 1672 between English and French fleets on one side and the Dutch on the other.

Head out of your chosen Southwold cottage to find the impressive historic buildings which escaped the ravages of the fire, including the impressive St Edmund’s Church and The Old Water Tower on Southwold Common, built in 1886 and now one of Suffolk Secrets’ three local offices.

From our self-catering holiday homes near Southwold harbour you can watch boats navigate the often choppy waters as the River Blyth meets the North Sea. For exploration further afield, a foot ferry will take you across the river to Walberswick, popular for walking holidays and nature trips in Suffolk and home to the annual British Open Crabbing Championship!

A little way inland we have holiday cottages in Wangford, located just on the edge of the Henham Park Estate, home of the annual Latitude Festival.  Its pleasant high street is overlooked by a picturesque church and a 16th century pub. And do visit our Wrentham  holiday homes – with shops and two pubs it’s in a great location for exploring the northern part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths area, and the wildlife reserves at Benacre Broad.

Alternatively our self catering cottages in Reydon, located just outside Southwold, give you the chance to enjoy the best of both worlds, coast and countryside. Reydon Wood is popular for walking holidays, especially in spring when it is a carpet of bluebells, while the village itself is home to a character-filled hotel, the perfect place to enjoy locally produced food at its best.
