Take a romantic holiday to Snape in Suffolk and stay in the cottage where composer Benjamin Britten and his partner Peter Pears once lived and made art. You’ll have a piece of incredible musical history and a beautiful landscape in one.
The bungalow is cosy and features two rooms: an open-plan living space with a kitchen, diner, lounge and bedroom in one; and a bathroom. The main area is lit through natural light from the garden, which enters through the glass doors which lead to the veranda. The kitchen is well equipped; the lounge is comfortable and the dining table is the perfect size for romantic meals á deux. You’ll notice a large and gorgeous garden with patio furniture, so you can relax in the sunshine and perhaps even play some of your own music. The lawn has plenty of shrubs and flowerbeds, so look out for wildlife on a peaceful morning. A large garage houses a tumble drier and plenty of space to store bikes.
You’ll be staying in the centre of Snape, a quiet village with a few pubs around. Amble over for a drink or a hearty meal, and you’ll be sure to learn more about Britten. Take in a show at the Snape Maltings Concert Hall. If you want to see wildlife, you’ll be close to Snape Marshes (approximately 500 metres away) and Snape Warren (0.5 miles), where you’ll find acres of heathland, full of plants, birds and other animals. If you’d like to be beside the seaside, take a trip to Aldeburgh (5.5 miles) or Thorpeness (6 miles), both charming coastal towns where you’ll be able to get excellent fish and chips. Finish your holiday with a visit to Oasis Camel Park to meet lemurs and ride camels (16.5 miles).
