For a romantic or solo retreat in a pretty Essex village, stay at this sweet dwelling in the peaceful village of Kirby-le-Soken. You’ll be just 2 miles from the coastal charm of Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze, two neighbouring seaside towns with gorgeous sandy beaches, beach huts and plenty of wildlife. You’ll have delightful views over Hamford Water National Nature Reserve from the property, which is lovely for birdwatching, dog walking and serene morning jogs.

Character meets comfort inside this charming annexe, which has a cosy open-plan living area for meal prep, leisurely dining and relaxing with a good book. This space has dual-aspect windows letting plenty of light in, including double doors leading outside. Head up the wooden stairs to reach a spacious living and bedroom area in the eves. Here you’ll have another comfy sofa, a Smart TV and a Juliet balcony for soaking in those countryside and water views. The space also features a double bed and an indulgent bathroom with a roll-top bath and walk-in shower. Outside, the private enclosed garden is a haven for relaxation. Sip your morning coffee on the patio or sizzle up a BBQ, surrounded by a charming lawn where your furry friends can roam freely.

The village itself has a lovely pub (300 metres) serving traditional food and ales – a real plus for when you don’t feel like cooking. At Kirby Jetty (0.5 miles) you can enjoy a refreshing swim at high tide. Wander down the quaint Victorian high street at Frinton-on-Sea, lined with independent shops and cafés, or learn about local history at Walton Maritime Museum (2.5 miles). You could also take a boat trip from Titchmarsh Marina to explore the local backwaters and, if you’re lucky, spot some resident seals.

We book quite a few UK holidays with our 2 small dogs, and, generally, come away feeling a little flat. Not this time! From the moment we opened the door we knew we had found a gem. The property was spotlessly clean. Downstairs was perfect for a quiet breakfast, either inside or outside. The kitchen is equipped with quite possibly anything you woRead moreuld need to cook and eat the amazing welcome pack (fresh bread, bacon, eggs, butter, marmalade and biscuits) There was tea and coffee in the cupboard. Upstairs is truly home from home. Lovely, spotlessly clean bathroom, comfy bed, and a cosy lounge overlooking the amazing countryside. The hosts are friendly and accommodating and are on hand should you need them. Overall, an amazing relaxing, quiet retreat that we shall certainly use again. Hide

Lovely place - lovely views - lovely owners - this was the 1st time we have ever had the owners as next door neighbours and it was very nice - not that we had any problems, more that if there were any they were available - always

What a lovely hidden gem. I had a very enjoyable stay at the Lodge, visiting for a friends 60th. The owners were friendly and helpful. Its set in a tranquil location with lovely views but within easy access to shops and the beach a short drive away. Spacious, spotlessly clean, decorated to a high standard and well equipped. The bathroom was a good Read moresize with fluffy towels. There is an enclosed secluded garden with table and chairs and barbecue. Walks from the front door. The owners left a generous welcome hamper which was much appreciated. They have only recently started to rent out the property and Im very pleased that they have as it will be my go to when visiting friends in Walton. I would happily recommend the Lodge. Thank you Beverley and Martin for making me feel so welcome and look forward to staying again. Hide
