The Secret to Being Green in Suffolk

The beautiful surroundings of Suffolk are the raw material of our self-catering holidays business – and as such, all of us here at Suffolk Secrets are doing all that we can to promote sustainable tourism and protect and enhance our natural environment. Please see below some of our sustainable initiatives:

Environmental Policy and Responsible Visitors Charter

Please take a look at our Environmental Policy which outlines our commitment to becoming a greener business and helping preserve our natural environment. You can also view our Responsible Visitors Charter.

Historic Buildings

As well as having a large number of beautiful historic cottages within our portfolio, here at Suffolk Secrets we are also proud to have our offices located in some wonderful historic buildings. In Aldeburgh we have an office on the historic High Street, in Woodbridge we are located in a 17th Century grade II listed quayside cottage and in Southwold you can find us is in a Grade II listed 19th Century water tower on Southwold Common. We are especially proud of our Southwold office, having painstakingly refurbished the water tower as well as adding an eco-friendly extension with a sedum roof.

Green Credentials

Recently, Suffolk Secrets have received commendation for our green credentials, including winning the 2011 Greenest Country ‘Green small business of the year” award. The award specifically acknowledged our community work – including our ‘beach clean’ project and our Suffolk Coast and Heaths customer donation scheme – as well as congratulating all staff for their energy and drive with green issues.

Suffolk Secrets were also recently voted onto the Suffolk Carbon Charter – a regional body of green businesses, following our close work with Suffolk Coastal District Council. Suffolk Secrets were given Charter membership following strong programs of energy/waste reduction and improving our sustainable tourism marketing and influence.

The Future

Our plans for the future include continuing to improve our green credentials, and being accredited by The Green Tourism Business Scheme. For further information please call us on 01502 722717 or email holidays@suffolk-secrets.co.uk
